πŸš€ This Week's Amazon Hack: Don't Let Your Head Get Puffed Up

I almost went bankrupt in 2017. I'm not exaggerating. It was easily one of the scariest experiences of my life and today you get to learn from my colossal mistake!

So, what happened? I'm going to stay at a 30,000-foot view today, otherwise, this would be a college essay. No one has time for that.

As I mentioned, it was 2017 and I was doing $6+ million on Amazon across multiple brands. Things were going great. 100% YOY growth, win after win for product launches. PPC averaging 17% ACoS. Life was good.

Then I got cocky.

I had a real "home run" listing with five color variations. So, I thought, why not launch 7 more colors? The first 5 colors were a hit, so the next 7 will be hits right?

WRONG

This is where the pain starts hitting. They were not priced at $20. My COGS alone were $20 a piece!

The new colors flopped. Like badly.

I found myself holding onto $700,000 in stale inventory right before Q4 and long-term storage fees were about to go into effect.

Nightmare scenario.

It was time to make some tough calls. The most obvious one was how was I going to pay my bills and my two employees.

I ended up deciding to dramatically lower the price of these products and recoup some of my capital. My employees were paid and I went multiple months without paying myself a dime.

I survived.

It was not a fun experience. Learn from me!

Honestly, the real lesson here is to launch slowly and methodically and to NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING!

The moment you start assuming is the moment you may find yourself in serious financial trouble.

Be studious, be strategic, and build brick by brick. To do otherwise is to spell trouble for your Amazon native brand.

Even if this means delaying a product launch until the following fiscal year, so be it. One of your worst enemies will be anxiety. Refuse to listen to that voice in your head.

It doesn't stop there.

Between a never-ending monsoon of Chinese sellers who don't care about the rules, new Amazon changes and fee increases on a regular basis, and the X factor of a random account suspension, you truly need to have Plan B, Plan C, and Plan D.

One of the many reasons I write this newsletter is to help you thrive when it comes to selling on Amazon and beyond. I hope this story helps you avoid catastrophe in your business!

πŸ”₯ Hot Amazon Seller News: Do Not Skip Over This

Amazon has officially announced the most important FBA inventory deadlines for the rest of 2024.

Use sticky notes. Add these to your Google calendar. Heck, write these on your forehead. Just don't foget about these dates.

September 6: This isn't a FBA deadline, rather, it's a Deal submission deadline for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. DO NOT MISS THIS DEADLINE.

September 13: Prime Big Deal Days will be historic for sellers again and will take place sometime in October. September 13 is the FBA inventory deadline so make sure you get your units into Amazon before this date. This is a sheer necessity to make sure you maintain your Prime badge AND your deals go off without a hitch.

October 19: if you want to avoid a freaking headache, you need to get your inventory checked into FBA warehouses by this date. If you don't you risk losing out on your Prime badge for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

πŸ’‘ Insider Tip: Send in your FBA inventory 2 weeks before the published Amazon deadlines. Why? The infamous "x factor" with check-in times. Never trust Amazon deadlines. You've been warned.

πŸŽ… Deadline: Last year, the Christmas FBA inventory deadline for sellers was December 1. I expect this to move up a week so plan accordingly.

πŸ’‘ Insider Tip #2: A 3PL will be absolutely critical for your business this year and the foreseeable future. This is especially true if you're not utilizing Amazon's AWD service. You need to maintain extra inventory so you can drip-feed small inventory shipments to FBA on command.

Stay ahead of these dates and put sticky notes on your desk if you need to. Whatever you do, DO NOT forget about these dates. I want to see you break your 2023 sales records. Let's goooooo! πŸš€

🀯 Amazon Owes You More Money Than You Realize I have a long history of both using GETIDA and recommending GETIDA to my clients and followers. There is one simple reason for that: they find money that Amazon owes you that other companies miss. When I send people over to GETIDA, they start seeing checks come rolling in. How big? Sometimes, we're talking $50,000 after the first account audit. How would you feel if you found out that Amazon was conveniently not telling you about this money? πŸ“… And...
